FRATERNITY HISTORY

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is the first intercollegiate African-American Greek lettered organization, founded on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca , New York on December 4, 1906. These visionaries were Jewel Henry Arthur Callis, Jewel Charles Henry Chapman, Jewel Eugene Kinckle Jones, Jewel George Biddle Kelley, Jewel Nathaniel Allison Murray, Jewel Robert Harold Ogle, and Jewel Vertner Woodson Tandy.

The founders of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, respectably known as our "JEWELS," were all stimulating individuals who envisioned the fraternity as a guiding light of hope for African-American men.

Since the organization's founding in 1906, more than 150,000 men have joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The fraternity has established chapters in the United States , Asia , Europe , Africa , and the Caribbean .

The national programs sponsod by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated are:

" Go to High School, Go to College " Provides young men with information and strategies to succeed in their academic careers. This program also serves as a role model for young men to emulate.

" Project Alpha " Which is collaborated with the March of Dimes, increases the knowledge of African American males consequences of teenage pregnancy through responsible attitudes and behaviors.

" Voteless People is a Hopeless People " This program focuses on political awareness and empowerment of African Americans.
